Hurricane Fence Highlights 400-Plus Projects at the Commercial-Only Office

RICHMOND, VA – October 30, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –

Founded in Richmond, Virginia, in 1994, fence contractor Hurricane Fence said today that its office in Dunn, North Carolina, has completed more than 400 commercial projects across the Triangle and surrounding counties. The Dunn office takes only commercial work, in a region where population and business investment have kept climbing.

The Raleigh-Cary metropolitan area added about 36,800 residents between July 2024 and July 2025, a gain of roughly 2.4 percent that brought the metro to nearly 1.6 million people, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. The state as a whole grew more slowly. Carolina Demography at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill put statewide growth at 1.3 percent and growth in Johnston County, part of the same metro, at 2.8 percent. On the business side, the North Carolina Department of Commerce reported more than 35,000 announced job commitments and more than $24 billion in capital investment from new and expanding companies statewide in 2025.

Every new warehouse, school campus, apartment complex and equipment yard comes with a perimeter that someone has to fence and gate.

“A lot of the builders we work with in Virginia have offices in North Carolina too, and those offices don’t always talk to each other,” said Mike Kelly, co-owner of Hurricane Fence. “We can have years of history with a contractor in Richmond and still be an unknown name to that same company’s team a few hours south, so the work down there has had to speak for itself.”

The office’s work covers commercial chain link and high-security perimeter fencing, ornamental steel and aluminum, and welded wire panels, a rigid mesh that is harder to cut or climb than standard chain link. Crews also install swing and slide gates with automatic operators, along with bollards, the short steel posts that keep vehicles away from storefronts and building entrances. Dumpster enclosures, guardrails, indoor and outdoor equipment cages, and sports field fencing and netting make up much of the day-to-day schedule. At active construction sites, the office supplies temporary fencing to secure the work area until the permanent fence is installed.

Dunn sits on Interstate 95 in Harnett County, about 40 miles south of the state capital. The office generally takes work within about 50 miles, a radius that covers Raleigh, Durham and Cary. The company handles data center, energy and other large-scale projects on a broader regional and national basis.

Hurricane Fence is a member of Carolinas Associated General Contractors, the construction trade association that represents commercial builders across North and South Carolina, as well as Associated Builders and Contractors. It also holds Blue Ribbon status from the American Fence Association, the fence industry’s national trade group.

Kelly said general contractors tend to judge a fence subcontractor on timing more than anything else. “Fence is usually one of the last trades on site, so by the time we get there the schedule has no slack left in it,” Kelly said. “The contractors who call us back are the ones who learned we’ll read the drawings, show up the day the site is ready and close out the punch list without being chased.”

Contractors, developers and property managers can reach the Dunn office at (919) 879-2271. Directions to the office are available on its Google Maps listing.
